HISTORICAL MONUMENT – The Old Town Complex of Przemyśl

Add to planner

On 10 December 2018, under the Regulation of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Old Town Complex in Przemyśl was granted the status of Historical Monument.

It constitutes an example of an urban-architectural concept of high historical value, in which the building structures from successive historic periods accumulate in a harmonious way, leaving valuable objects of architecture and fine art. The beginnings of human settlement in Przemyśl date back to the 7th century, and by the 11th century Przemyśl was an important administrative centre under Bolesław I the Brave. It then became the capital of the Principality of Halych-Volhynia, a royal free city, a significant centre for the Republic of Poland (mid-14th–18th century), the capital of Przemyśl Land, and the seat of two bishoprics: Roman Catholic and Orthodox Catholic.
