The urbanistic structure of Przemyśl Old Town quarter came into existence according to the Teutonic law in the 2nd half of the 14th c. The Square, exceptional due to the sloping terrain, was designed as a quadrangle-like place with the sides of about 80 m.

Till now three rows of buildings at the square have survived; the west one was demolished at the turn of the 18th c.
The preserved buildings have a characteristic three-rowed inner structure dating back to the 15th and 16th cc. and modernized in the next centuries. The buildings got their present shape and look at the turn of the 19th c.

In the centre of the Square there was a Renaissance Town Hall built in the mid 16th c.by an Italian architect Andreas Bononi. The edifice got demolished in 1794 due to Austrian authorities’ decision
after the second partition of Poland (1793) .
